The NPL run this huge event annually in partnership with the Warrnambool & District Careers Teacher’s Association.
The 2025 expo was a huge success! There were 66 businesses/organisations who took part as stall holders. 1267 students from 21 schools, education and services providers from 5 shires attended the day session. They learnt about exciting new careers from over 340 industry members who were happy to share information about their industries. The night session was attended by over 200 people, including job-seekers, parents, students and members of the public. Feedback from students and stall holders alike was overwhelmingly positive.
A student from the Corangamite Shire asked Maddens Lawyers if they host students for work experience. When they replied positively, the student got a work experience form from his teacher and arranged it on the spot with them, stating ‘I’ll be there on the 15th!’
From a school careers advisor: ‘One student got a work placement, and another received two emails from employers after dropping their resume at the expo. Another student was able to connect with her industry of choice, although being very nervous to do so.’
Tim from Head Start organised work experience for a Year 11 student. The student was reluctant to visit Callaghan Motor’s to complete the paperwork but as Callaghan’s was at the expo, Tim was able to introduce the student to the team. Once back at school, the student went straight to the careers advisor’s office and completed the forms.
A Year 12 student engaged with SHB Business and Wealth to set up an internship as they plan to study Commerce / Finance in 2025 in Melbourne.
Feedback from a careers advisor: ‘The careers office has been noticeably more frequented by year 10’s enquiring about work experience since they attended the Career Expo.’
